PIT tag Distribution Agreement

March 2012

RFIDSol

West Fork Environmental, Inc. and RFID Solutions S.L. of Malaga, Spain are pleased to announce the signing of an exclusive distribution agreement for sales of PIT tags and other RFID products to the North American fish and wildlife market. This agreement brings together a team of experienced field biologists at West Fork Environmental led by Phil Peterson, and RFID Solutions' accomplished electronics engineer, Zeke Mejia.

RFID Solutions’ 9mm FDX tag was recently selected by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) during rigorous performance trials as the top performing tag in its class. Test results cite it as outperforming “the current 9mm standard tags by 3-4 times at the BCC antenna”, and it is now under contract for use throughout the Columbia River basin. The first shipment of 9mm tags was delivered to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) offices in Kennewick, WA on March 12th and will soon be in the hands of field researchers. In the BPA field trials, RFID Solutions’ 12mm tag was found to be equal or similar in performance to that of the existing 12mm tag that is currently in wide spread use throughout the Columbia basin.

The alignment of RFID Solutions and West Fork Environmental provides an exceptional alternative for PIT tags and RFID services to the fish and wildlife research community. Under their agreement they will be working together to develop, test and distribute new products for both small stream and main river PIT tagging projects and research and monitoring applications.

Forest & Channel Metrics is now West Fork Environmental

February 2, 2012

You’ve known us previously as Forest & Channel Metrics. We’ve changed our name and we’d like you to know why.
You’re working with the same company - same dedicated, enthusiastic, insightful, hardworking people.
So what’s new, why the change?

The down-to-earth-truth, which is what you’ve already come to expect from us, is simply that
West Fork Environmental is a great name for us, for who we are and what we do.
A name forever rooted in river geography,
of forks that converge to form confluences – confluences of water, land, people and purpose.
A name that associates not only with the great rivers of our region, but the forests, the canyon and range and crop lands too.
And as importantly, it’s a name that speaks to renewal, to the need to nurture and feed what feeds us all.

PIT-tagging Pygmy Whitefish

December 20, 2011

The West Fork Environmental Staff

In December West Fork Environmental biologists assisted Seattle Public Utilities in PIT tagging adult pygmy whitefish (Prosopium coulteri) in the upper Cedar River in eastern King County, WA. This population of whitefish is rare (only 6 other known from WA) and constitutes an important prey item for threatened bull trout that live in suburban Seattle's water supply - Chester Morse Lake.

West Fork Environmental has assisted Seattle Public Utilities with this project since 2006. The project began with the installation of full-duplex PIT tag (RFID) interrogation sites on the mainstem Cedar River upstream of Chester Morse Lake and in other tributaries. The interrogation site was initially installed to track the movement of tagged adult and juvenile bull trout within the lake and river system. The tagging of pygmy whitefish has been conducted as an additional measure to understand the relationship between bull trout and the population dynamics of this important prey species. For more information visit the Cedar River Watershed website.
